A Classic Kingston Foursquare with a Home Office: $414.9K
Jane Anderson | September 2, 2024This Labor Day, Upstater is laboring the day away in our home office. So why not celebrate the utility of a home base this week?
Today we are in the City of Kingston, at a classic American Foursquare—this home style was popular from 1890 through the 1930s, and is characterized by its cube shape, hipped roof, and dormer. This home retains all of those details beautifully, from its cream-colored siding to the green roof and shutters.
A traditional gray-painted floor and rich, natural-wood ceiling are just some highlights of the full-width front porch.
Original woodwork and hardware are striking in the foyer: French doors, a beautifully patterned hardwood floor, and sturdy stairs all carry a well-maintained patina.
A stained-glass window accent is a pretty surprise in the living room.
Another set of French doors opens from the living room…
…to the dining room, which could also double as a first-floor home office.
Older-home enthusiasts will truly appreciate the woodwork in this house.
The kitchen needs updates, from its floor to the cabinetry and orange counters and backsplash.
The laundry room most likely shares space with a half-bath on the first floor.
The second-floor hallway doesn’t waste space, and is painted a soothing light blue.
The first of three bedrooms has more gorgeous woodwork and a blue accent wall.
The full bath upstairs could use an update or two.
This bedroom is as bright and pretty as the first, and appears larger.
Aqua walls complement the deep-toned woodwork in the third bedroom. All three bedrooms have closets like the one pictured here.
If you’re looking for a loftier home-office option, the full attic has potential.
A small back deck leads to the backyard. There’s a side yard, too—a bonus of the home’s corner-lot location.
The property totals 0.11 acre, and has a detached garage with a driveway off the side street. It’s in the heart of a residential neighborhood in Kingston and not far from the shops and restaurants of the Stockade District. Closer to home, Sonder is just a half-mile away.
