A Cochecton Diamond in the Rough

  |  September 12, 2025

Cochecton, in Sullivan County, is a somewhat sleepy little town that is seriously steeped in history.

Not only is it home to Cochecton Mills (and the Cochecton Pump House), it is also home to the oldest surviving railroad passenger station in New York state, according to the town’s website. Neither a mill nor a railroad station, nevertheless today’s Upstater find is a diamond in the rough.

Ok, so there are no interior photos (forewarned is forearmed, as they say).

(Nevertheless, she persisted)

The exterior of this c.1860 structure is solid and on-point for its period.

We at Upstater often fall back on the “old-home buffs would like…”

But, really, from the clapboards on the facade to those well-worn flagstones at your feet, isn’t there some sentiment for the vintage of this once-fine old place?

It does need an awful lot of work. But its $99,000 price tag accounts for that, especially given its 1.11-acre property.

And that old red barn is classically beautiful in its own right.

(Yeah, it’s kind of falling down at the moment) The property is near the Delaware River and all of its fun outdoor activities. The Cochecton Pump House, mentioned earlier? Yeah, it’s just a mile and a half from here.
