A Colorful, C.1900 Red Hook Home

  |  June 11, 2025

Today’s Upstater find is in the heart of Red Hook.

This c.1900 farmhouse is traditional on the outside, with white siding, black shutters, and gingerbread scrolls on the porch columns. But that blue front door hints at colorful secrets inside.

Honey-toned, wide-plank floors add a golden touch to the entry, next to a mahogany-shaded staircase with minty green walls.

The wide view showcases the board-and-batten staircase wall along with that bright blue door.

White baseboards match paneling under the windows in the living room.

Color saturates the walls throughout the house, like here in the dining room…

…and orange in the mudroom leading outside.

Sure, the kitchen may seem dated to some, but to others, it’s a preserved gem. Those cabinets are classic, to begin with.

Other elements can be updated, but given the chance, we’d find a way to reclaim those cabinets.

The listing says three bedrooms are upstairs. This one has the same beautiful floors as downstairs.

This room’s lighter walls lend an airier feel.

There’s another room off the foot of the bed.

It *could* technically be the third bedroom, we suppose, but for now, it’s a laundry room.

The bathroom is basic but pretty.

The full basement is unfinished, but has some framed-out closets and other storage.

The house sits on a 0.13-acre village lot, but it’s got a fenced backyard. It’s a block off Route 9, which means it’s walking distance to Yum Yum Noodle Bar and Taste Budd’s Chocolate and Coffee Cafe.
