A Columbia County Cottage for $199K

  |  May 24, 2024

Niverville is a hamlet in Columbia County, and it’s the site of today’s Upstater house.

Following this week’s theme, this Columbia County cottage comes in at 900 square feet and sits smack-dab on Main Street. Its provenance harks to 1880, but it was recently updated with a new laminate floor, new dry well, new well pump and a new furnace to boot. Its exterior is clean and simple, with a saltbox style. The covered entrance leads practically to the edge of Main Street.

This image shows the interior mid-reno. But it captures the nice tile floor in the kitchen and the hardwood flooring in the living area.

A butcher-block island offers dining space. An adjacent peninsula has whitewashed reclaimed wood that contrasts with the rest of the cabinets.

The majority of the cabinets are painted gray, and a sculpted white tile backs the wall against the gas range.

A shiny cast-iron wood-burning stove juts from a stone fireplace, and warms up the family room.

Sliders (through which a doleful pup can be seen) lead to the yard—and probably will become the main entrance for the family who will be living here.

There’s just one bath here, but it’s a good size, with plenty of storage for toiletries for all who will be using the tub/shower. The vanity is tucked into a well-lit alcove.

This bedroom has a surprising amount of room for such a small home. The bed is in its own alcove.

Another bedroom has a bifold-door closet and warm, rustic wood flooring.

A small screened porch is carved into a corner of the house.

The home sits on 0.16 acre just south of Kinderhook Lake and north of Valatie (check out their Winter Walk around the winter holidays).
