A Craftsman-era Estate in Newburgh: $785K

  |  December 6, 2024

This Craftsman-era estate in the town of Newburgh is a perfect find for Fabulous Friday (we just coined that phrase).

Built in 1915, the house has a Dutch-inspired gambrel roof and huge front dormer. The home was designed by architect Nicholas Serracino, who also built St. Jean Baptiste Church in New York City.

The stone front porch is a solid entry to the house, framing…

…the gorgeous, original double front doors. Check out that ornate detail on the brass hardware and the intricate dentil moldings on the woodwork.

The dramatic woodwork continues in the foyer, with thick paneling inside the front doors and delicate carving on the stately staircase.

Just off the foyer is this gaming room.

Pocket doors open to a long and lean library, with a stone fireplace at the opposite end.

Coffered ceilings gleam golden in both the living room (which also has a baby grand piano) and dining room.

Elegant columns separate the two rooms.

The kitchen is large and flows to a stone sunroom. The kitchen’s yellow WoodMode cabinets contrast beautifully with the cobalt blue of the range.

It’s a LaCornue Chateau 90 range with matching hood, shelf, and spice drawers. A Waterstone pot-filler faucet eliminates having to tote a full pot of water across the kitchen to the stove.

The cabinets themselves are interesting in their diverse shapes, from open with baskets to glass-doored to solid. Countertops vary from walnut to copper to marble.

The sunroom is soaked in sunlight.

Penny tile and a pedestal sink are vintage touches in the half bath.

A butler’s pantry is next to the kitchen and across from the half bath.

The staircase climbs to a carpeted hallway. An open doorway offers a peek into one of six bedrooms.

This other bedroom has the same interesting, dual-light fixture dangling over the bed. A viney, blue-and-white wallpaper covers the walls.

Golden light bounces off the leather floorcloth and rich woodwork in this bedroom.

Wallpaper stretches from the tiled wainscoting to the ceiling and beyond in this full bath. The house has a total of six bedrooms and 1.5 baths.

An outdoor terrace has a pretty vista.

A three-story barn sits next to a two-car, detached garage. The property’s 3.7 acres include an orchard with more than 100 mature apple trees.
