A Cute Ranch in New Paltz
Jane Anderson | October 27, 2025
This week, Upstater is in New Paltz—home to apple orchards and, of course, the eponymous state university.
Today’s house is 2.5 miles from SUNY New Paltz and sits on 0.69 acre. It’s a cute Midcentury Modern ranch, freshly painted on the inside, with a front stoop leading to an enclosed foyer.
An octagon window is quintessentially 1950s. The industrial-style carpet in the foyer? Not as nice to look at, but functional nonetheless.
The house opens up past the foyer to a skylight-lit den, with a vaulted ceiling, a new laminate floor, and a ladder up to a loft area.
Sliders on the other end of the den open to a bright sunroom, with another door leading outside.
The kitchen and dining-room area is large, with a bright bay window; but some updates might be in store for the vinyl-tile floor.
A peninsula separates the kitchen from the living room, which has a white-brick, wood-burning fireplace and a hardwood floor in need of some refinishing.
The bathroom has a long vanity and a tub/shower.
Like most ranches, this one has three bedrooms. The first has a hardwood floor and white walls.
The second is a carbon copy of the first…
…while the third bedroom is carpeted.
The expansive yard includes this shed. The 1,456-square-foot house is listed for $389,000.
