A Fairytale Ranch in Rhinebeck: $519.9K

  |  June 1, 2023

Today’s Upstater visit to Rhinebeck showcases this retro beauty of a ranch, built in 1930 with a charming rolled-edge shingle roof and a stone-and-clapboard facade that’s straight out of Grimm’s Fairytales.

The 1,817-square-foot house has three bedrooms and 2.5 baths on a half-acre, landscaped lot. The driveway leads to a one-car garage.

The living room has original wood flooring, a coffered ceiling, and a stone fireplace. French doors lead to the dining room, and a built-in bookcase adds charm.

The dining room has another built-in set of shelving. The floors might need refinishing, but overall the house has been pretty well-maintained.

A breakfast room mimics the other rooms’ coffered ceilings and wood floors.

The kitchen has a geometric ceramic floor, and subway tile running through the backsplash. It’s long and kind of lean, with a row of maple cabinets on one side and the fridge and range on the other.

The primary bedroom is on the main level. It has bright windows, a wood floor, a walk-in closet, and an ensuite bath with a tiled shower stall.

The second bedroom is on the other side of the house from the primary bedroom (a win for a family). It’s located just off a hall that also has stairs leading upstairs.

There’s a full bath here, too, with a tub/shower combo.

The laundry room is next to that bath. It’s roomy, with a tiled floor and the kind of original, genuine wood paneling that you just don’t want to ditch. It has plenty of cabinets and a long, Formica-and-chrome, clothes-folding counter. A door leads outside from here.

Upstairs is this carpeted bedroom that measures 10 feet by 17 feet.

The upstairs floor also has this half-bath with a charming, built-in hutch.

A screened porch sits off the back of the house. It does have a spacious wood deck overlooking the yard. The full basement is unfinished.

There’s more than enough room for playing, gardening, and relaxing. And it’s just a few minutes’ drive to the heart of the village of Rhinebeck for dinner at Beekman Arms & Delamater Inn.
