A Federal-Style Home in Saugerties: An accessory apartment adds two beds to the mix.

  |  March 5, 2025

Today’s Upstater profile is a Federal-style home in Saugerties that’s a beautiful mix of vintage and modern details.

The exterior is polished and pristine; cream-painted brick brightens the walls, black-and-white gable brackets and colored lintels add interest.

The front door, trim, radiator, and staircase are soaked in light-blue paint (except, thankfully, for the banister and railings).

The living room, in yellow, has a pretty bay-windowed alcove…

…and a black-marble fireplace.

The blue from the foyer rolls into this parlor.

The dining room’s green walls are a soft complement to the rich hardwood flooring. We love that brown marble fireplace, too.

Lighting and perspective are playing tricks here, as the dining room that looked long and lean with walls of green is a little wider in this image, and the walls look bluer. The kitchen is modern; white cabinets are topped with dark countertops that form a breakfast bar at the end of a peninsula.

Marble-tile flooring meshes all the colors in the room.

A half-bath is handy on the main floor.

Upstairs is a spacious hall.

Cobalt tiles climb halfway up the walls in this bright, clean bathroom.

This room’s got the Midas touch, from the glowing floor to the creamy walls to the golden sunlight streaming in.

An exposed-brick wall adds interest to this bedroom.

This room is smaller, but the windows are bright, and we like that double door.

Tongue-and-groove forms the wainscoting and, in painted form, the ceiling in this room.

A separate entrance along one side of the house leads to an accessory apartment.

It’s got a kitchen with a gas range and oak cabinets, and an adjoining living room.

This bedroom is spacious, with a hardwood floor.

A few steps lead to a second bedroom.

The bathroom has stone tiles on the floor and on the walls surrounding the tub/shower.

The house even has a picket fence surrounding a side yard.

The rear of the house has a sunroom…

…that is sunny and bright.

The house is on a quarter-acre, just a block off Main Street and two blocks from Miss Lucy’s Kitchen.
