A Four-Bed Colonial in Warwick, $469K

  |  April 18, 2022

This week, we’re tying on our sneakers and taking a stroll through some of the Hudson Valley’s walkable communities. Especially with the price of gas nowadays, being able to run errands while leaving your car in the driveway is a money-saving idea—as well as a healthy one for your body and mind.

Today we’re starting in Warwick. The village’s main drag is a throwback to what old-fashioned Main Streets used to be, and it’s chock full of stores carrying items you actually need: a pharmacy, tons of restaurants—and Newhard’s, a gift shop/department store that’s been around for decades, carrying toys, housewares, gifts, and even socks!

On a side street off of Main in the middle of downtown is this 114-year-old beauty. With four bedrooms and two full baths, it measures 1,687 square feet, and is a three-minute walk from everything that downtown Warwick has to offer. And take a gander at those wood floors, beautifully refinished staircase, and original radiators.

The parlor/living room off the entry has an original tin ceiling, solid baseboards and trim, and a vintage arched doorway. Is that a refrigerator peeking from the back?

Yes, and there’s an entire kitchen with it. The floors are gorgeously finished, there’s more tin-ceiling action, and the appliances are a nice mix of stainless-steel and black. The new owners can decide whether to keep the vintage tiled-and butcher-block counters and what looks like original cabinetry, or replace them. But like the rest of the house, the bones of this room seem solid.

And look! An exposed-brick column and a niche of shelves on another side of the kitchen.

A clever redo knocked out an adjoining wall to create an open-concept kitchen/dining/family room area, with sliders out to a roomy back deck.

The main level also has a full bath with a large shower.

Upstairs are four bedrooms, all of which seem to be roughly similar in size and design.

Big enough for small bunks, they have big windows and hardwood floors.

The full bathroom in the hallway up here has a tub/shower combination. Does this place scream “family home,” or what?

The lot size is small, coming in at 0.14 acre. But really, everything you could possibly need is at your sneakertips, and who wants to spend time mowing when you could be using that time window-shopping and grabbing a snack or drink downtown?
