A Kitchen Fit for a Thanksgiving Crowd: $1.825M
Jane Anderson | November 30, 2024Upstater continues our foray into Catskill at a stone home with a kitchen fit for a Thanksgiving crowd.
This c.1920 ranch has three bedrooms, three baths, and an interesting provenance.
From the listing: “It was originally built for British traveler and author Alleyne Ireland, known for his writings on British tropical colonies and his role as private secretary to Joseph Pulitzer. Alleyne’s extensive travels in Asia and his close relationship with architect Frank Lloyd Wright inspired the style of the house. The land was painted by Thomas Cole, founder of the Hudson River School of landscape painting. 70 years later, the house was discovered in ruins by renowned NYC-based designer Stephen Shadley, who meticulously restored it. In a labor of love, Shadley took the structure down to its stone walls and fireplaces and built it again from the ground up in 2005.”
We’re in love with the kitchen already. This table seats 10.
A Wolf range is the centerpiece of one side of the kitchen. Deep teal cabinetry surrounds it, and a comfy window seat is on the adjoining wall.
Well, look at that: Another window seat is on the other corner, next to a woodburning fireplace.
Double sinks flanking the door provide plenty of prep space.
The living room also has a woodburning fireplace, and rustic ceiling beams.
French doors from this bedroom…
…lead to a private screened porch.
The ensuite bath has a soaking tub flanked by deep-silled windows.
A modern shower system is encased in glass and subway tile.
This light-filled bedroom is moody and pretty.
A stone accent wall backs up against a petite clawfoot tub in this bathroom.
Meander up a stone path from the main house to another stone building…
…that houses the third bedroom and ensuite bath.
The architecture and materials used in this property are beautiful.
A heated, Gunite, saltwater pool is a bonus.
The home’s 32 acres are lush and private, and include a garage.
Mountain views are simply one of many amenities to living here. Yet it’s just five minutes to downtown Catskill (grab a bagel and more at Goodies).
