A Livingston Manor Victorian: $859K
Jane Anderson | January 23, 2025
Today’s Victorian is a home run, as far as Victorians go.
This Livingston Manor Victorian has alllllll the gingerbready/floral wallpaper feels. The facade is a dance for the eyes, as they dart from the geometric porch railing, up to the fancy pillars and brackets, then shoot above to the fretwork on the portico…only to glide ever upward to the dentil-molded gables.
And if the new owner is a gardener—well, we have good news. There’s a ton of perennial promise here, we’d wager.
The front doors are a Candyland of stained-glass squares. The listing alludes to gas-light fixtures in the house; we’d love to scout those out.
Hello and welcome to Victorian *everything*. The lush wallpaper is a good start. But really, check out that tiger-wood pattern in the foyer floor. Pocket doors separate the foyer from the living room on one side and a parlor on the other.
Ok, so you’d have to be a fan of the look to love this. But even if you don’t fawn over the perfect wallpaper choice, you’ve got to appreciate that moody fireplace in this living room.
The same goes for this fireplace in the parlor.
Thank goodness the fabulous woodwork has not been erased in this house. The kitchen highlights a full wall of it, in doors that the new owner will be lucky to open. In addition, there’s a drool-worthy chef’s gas range with a double oven, a double sink, and a stainless-steel dishwasher and fridge. All of it sits on snazzy, easy-to-mop ceramic tile.
*Pausing a moment to fan-girl this woodwork*
Plus, it has a door (with a cat-flap) to the backyard, as every old-fashioned home should.
Climb the staircase to this on-point (in Victorian standards) hallway.
This big bedroom has equally big windows that bounce light off the red-painted floor that mimics tones from the wallpaper.
Yes, there is a lot of wallpaper here. Depending on the new owner’s preference, this home could be “move-in ready” or “in need of updates.”
Ok, the dulcimer and the rocking chairs are beautiful distractions….but that perfectly faded wallpaper makes this room a keeper. The house has five bedrooms from which to choose. Oh, and that doorway leads to…
…a smartly outfitted bath. From the blue-and-white penny-tiled floor to the blue-and-white clawfoot tub (on tile-saving risers), we kinda love this bathroom.
The wallpaper ethos continues in this bolder bedroom. As older-home buffs, we bemoan the painted trim. But there’s always steam, chemicals, and elbow grease that could remedy it.
This second-floor laundry room is a bonus.
The red and white tiling in this bathroom intrigues us as much as that lil arched door near the floor next to the basin/chamberpot stand.
An explosion of flowers on the wallpaper almost distracts us from the items that fill this room, especially that old-fashioned wringer washing machine.
The full, unfinished attic surely holds more treasures, and has room for whatever the new owner wants to stash.
The house measures 2,975 square feet and dates from 1884, built by A.P. Dubois. It sits on almost an acre, smack in the heart of Livingston Manor, next to the Walk In for good eats.
