A Log Cabin Near the Lake: $269K

  |  November 20, 2024

Greenwood Lake has been a liquid playground for 100 years, and today we’re exploring a log cabin near the lake.

The area was a favorite spot for celebrities like slugger Babe Ruth; in fact, this place (no, he didn’t live in this house) was built just about the time he retired and moved to the village, where he lived until his death in 1948.

The enclosed porch will be charming, once the clutter is gone. This bonus space is not included in the house’s 702 square feet.

The main level has all the log-cabin feels, from a stone fireplace to chinked-log Pecky cypress walls to a wagon-wheel chandelier.

The kitchen is petite. The new owner can decide whether to embrace the old-fashioned vibes, or consider a renovation. We love that drainboard sink, though.

This corner holds a tiny dinette, next to a portable washing machine that most likely hooks into the sink faucet. The dryer is in the unfinished basement.

A main-floor bedroom has another exit door.

A barn-style door opens to the bathroom, which is pretty small but functional.

The catwalk offers a good view of the living room.

The loft bedroom currently holds two twin beds. The wood floor, walls, and ceiling all appear to be in great shape.

A brick patio out back is surrounded by lawn.

The listing says the basement is partially walk-out, which sounds promising for future renovation potential. Plus, the property abuts state parkland.

The house is at the north end of the lake, about a mile and a half from the public kayak launch and under two miles from the public beach at the Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park. For good eats and great lake views, Emerald Point Restaurant and Marina is just over a mile away.
