A Log-Sided Cabin in Red Hook: $895K

  |  May 15, 2024

For many people, the Red Hook/Rhinebeck area drums up ideas of Main Street shopping and restaurants. But there’s wilderness, here, too—and here’s a home in the thick of it.

This three-bedroom, contemporary, log-sided cabin in Red Hook is technically in the town of Milan but has a Red Hook address. The exterior gives cabin vibes, with skinny log siding and a steeply sloped roof.

This screened porch is perfect for a warm (and bug-free) night. We’re extra-loving that porch swing, and the red-painted floor.

Ignoring the suspected virtual furniture staging, enter the great room. It has a vaulted ceiling and lots of wood in the floor, walls, and ceiling. A wide rock fireplace draws center stage against one wall. That lil barn door for firewood storage is too cute.

The ceiling’s skylights add to the airiness of the space, which extends to the kitchen.

Butcher block covers the center island, which is large enough to seat four. Minimalist cabinets have no hardware to interrupt the sleek look. But there’s plenty of space to cook fabulous meals on that big gas range.

Shiplap walls and a shiplap ceiling mark this bedroom, which also has floor-to-ceiling windows and a hardwood floor.

The shiplap treatment extends to the bathroom, which has a single-sink composite vanity and a glass-enclosed shower.

The steep roof creates a sharply angled wall in this bedroom. Skinny skylights break up all of that wood and let light inside.

The last bedroom has the same lines, plus a wide, built-in wall of bookshelves and cupboards.

The vanity in this bath has an interesting marbled treatment. That avocado-toned sink is a true throwback to the home’s c.1970s origin; it’s repeated in the tub/shower.

The back deck is ground-level and rail-less, all the better to enjoy the yard unencumbered.

The front door is actually a side door that accesses that amazing screened porch.

Split-rail fencing surrounds part of the 12.5-acre property, which has fruit trees and includes this adorable shed. Downtown Red Hook is less than 15 minutes away; on your way there, stop at Hill-N-Hollow Farm Market for fresh, local chicken, cheese, and other provisions.
