A Midcentury Marvel in Wappingers Falls: A Frank Lloyd Wright-esque design in a great location.

When describing the Midcentury Modern esthetic, you can veer very different ways, most of them TV-sitcom-related, in our opinion.
There’s the Bewitched era, with a Frigidaire Flair oven/range. The post-McM Brady Bunch brick-walled kitchen. And the Dick Van Dyke Show, with that hard-edged sofa upon which Laura Petrie perched.
Today’s pick, a Midcentury marvel in Wappingers Falls, is The Jetsons all the way. No question: From the Frank Lloyd Wright-esque flat roof to the ragged-rhombus shape of the entire building, this home hews true to its c.1953 construction.

The magic continues inside, where, due to MCM minimalism, not much has changed. The living room has a stacked-stone fireplace and a skeletal bookcase. Huge windows are topped with wide clerestory windows.

In the kitchen, we’re hard-pressed to guess if the cabinetry style is O.G. or a modernized replica. The dark veneer and sleek gold hardware are just as at home in the 1950s as they are here. That massive double-door fridge, however, is totally now…and totally needed.

This bedroom has a wall of sliding-door closets. One wall is painted shiplap, and the floor is a light hardwood.

The primary bedroom, like the previous bedroom, is on the main level. It, too, has a double-door closet, along with a fixed-pane and casement window combination.

Tile, in pebble and wavy form, make a statement in this full bath.

Head down the open stairs to a hallway that’s bright with windows.

A second bath has marble tile on the floor and the walls of the corner shower.

The third bedroom has a long, lean look.

A “sitting room” downstairs has sliders out to the yard.

*Sigh* The Midcentury Modern fan in you is just salivating at these mid-mod lines, isn’t it?
The house measures almost 2,000 square feet and sits on 0.8 acre. It’s almost laughably close to shopping and restaurants along Route 9. It’s not a bad deal at $499,000.
