A Midcentury Modern Ranch in Poughkeepsie: Mrs. Maisel, the '60s are calling.

Today’s Upstater post is for the Midcentury Modern purists. Anyone else, it’s your choice to stick around or find some other, more bland property.
Ok, check out this c.1961 Midcentury Modern brick ranch in Poughkeepsie. Its flat roof has all the angles and lines that are iconic to this era of homebuilding, along with big picture windows to let in lots of light.

Open the front door—check out that centered doorknob!—to a hallway lined with bifold-door closets.

The entry’s floor is tile, while the rest of the house is covered in hardwood flooring.

The living room has a loooong expanse of picture windows, with tip-in casements at the bottom for ventilation. A whitewashed, flat-stone wall has a double fireplace embedded in it.

It separates the living room from the dining room.

Wow! That kidney-shaped center island, the burl-wood cabinetry, the half-moon cabinet pulls…the important original parts of this kitchen have been preserved.

The electric cooktop is on the elevated part of that island, with handy storage cupboards underneath. The windows all have peaceful views; a glass-topped door leads to the backyard. There’s room for a dinette under that vintage chandelier, too.

The house has four bedrooms, all on the main level. The primary bedroom has a picture window on one wall and a quintet of casements on the other.

A closet hides behind those bifold doors; another one is behind the door that’s next to the ensuite bath.

And whoa! If you like the look of Midcentury Modern bath tile, you’ve got it here in spades. Blue tile abounds in many shades, from the walls to multi-tones in the tub/shower.

So, the second closet? It’s a walk-through to the next bedroom, with rods and shelves on either side.

This bedroom is adjacent to the front door, and features a double picture window.

It’s also got a built-in bookcase/desk arrangement. Stairs to the unfinished basement are behind the door to the right.

All of the bedrooms need fresh paint. But they are all a blank slate, and a good size.

They all sport an assortment of windows, and a bifold-door closet.

If that blue-tiled bath wasn’t enough, this pink-and-blue one packs a punch. The vanity under that green-and-pink counter is disintegrating, but otherwise, the bathroom is holding up. If we had our druthers, we’d seek out a blue sink at a local ReStore in a shade to match the floor tile, and reconstruct the vanity in a similar shade, too.

Another nice surprise: Twin attached garages on one side of the house, with an ample driveway.

The 1,987-square-foot house sits on 1.2 verdant acres, with a lawn that would make any 1960s-era Dad want to rev up the ride-on mower.
It’s in the heart of the Spackenkill area, just under three miles to all the shopping on Route 9. Palace Dumplings is about a 10-minute drive from here (you must go). The house is priced to sell, too, at $465,000.
