A Modern House of Uncommon Design in Accord: $899K
Jane Anderson | June 7, 2023Today’s house pick was built in 2015, but has design elements reminiscent of “Frank Lloyd Wright meets The Jetsons.”
The exterior is pod-like: Geometric, green cement-panel slabs cover the angled walls, topped with a butterfly roof. A porte-cochere juts out from the main entrance, providing a covered entry.
The front door sits at the top of three bluestone steps, and two stacked sidelights bring light into the foyer. The wall into which the door is set is rust-colored, a great contrast to the green.
Inside, an interesting parquet floor interchanges dark and light wood. Sleek, heavy beams cross the ceiling. The beams, trim throughout the house, and the staircase were all built from trees harvested on the owner/builder’s farm.
In the living room, the wooden beams are interspersed with red steel I-beams. That parquet floor continues through the main level of the house, and a wall of south-facing windows overlooks the woods. A built-in tray holds plants.
The main level is bright and open, with multiple seating areas.
Interesting details abound, like that curved planter on the wall separating the living room from the kitchen.
Two I-beams form an arch delineating the kitchen.
White cabinets have natural and red wood accents, topped with black countertops.
The main-floor bedroom is currently used as an office. It’s got a long set of corner windows that look as if they were slashed into the wall.
In the half-bath, you can truly appreciate the woven-wood look of the parquet floor.
Head downstairs to two bedrooms and two full baths. This bedroom has angled windows and a door leading outside.
The full bath has marble accents in the tub/shower area and on the wide, single-sink vanity.
The marble work continues in this bathroom, which has an intricately tiled shower and light aqua walls.
A built-in office is down here, too.
This butter-colored bedroom is big and sunny.
It has an adjoining sitting/living room.
This door leads from the main-level living room onto a spacious deck…
…that wraps around the house. Cable railings offer protection without marring the view.
Here, you can see how that upper wall of windows provides solar gain in the winter. The property totals 5.3 acres, and it’s close to Accord Market, Saunderskill Farm Market, and hiking trails.
