A Modern Oasis in Saugerties: Cozy and energy-efficient are the code words here.

The wood accent captures golden light.

Today’s Upstater pick is a modern oasis in Saugerties, not far from Woodstock.

A wooden accent wall reaches two stories tall at the entrance. The rest of the exterior is low-maintenance metal, like the roof. A second-story terrace spans the width of the house.

The black and white ethos is refreshing.

The foyer is large enough for a small desk.

Airy and bright.

Marble tiles cover the floor in the open-concept living/kitchen/dining area.

Room for a crowd!

Big windows let in lots of light at the breakfast bar.

The hanging range hood adds to the modern edginess.

Sleek black appliances complement the moody gray cabinets that form an L in the kitchen. A dining table sits between them and a set of sliders leading to one of two bluestone patios outside.

Plenty of room for relaxing.

The living room is cozy, with clerestory windows above a fireplace.

The tiled shower alcove answers “Where do I put the shampoo?”

This full bath is just off the living room. It has a modern, black-and-white vanity next to a glass-and-tile shower. The flooring throughout the main level has radiant heat for warmth underfoot.

We love the attention to detail – the machines are black, like the door.

A stacked washer and dryer hide behind a door next to the shower. All of the appliances in the house are energy-efficient.

High ceilings add to the airiness.

Upstairs are two bedrooms. Both have doors out to that expansive terrace. The floor here is wood-look laminate.

That terrace is an additional living space in warm months.

This bedroom seems a bit bigger than the first.

Both baths are spa-like.

The bathroom up here is similar to the downstairs one. It, too, has radiant heat, though the bedrooms do not.

The patios are perfect for grilling in the summer.

The house is on 0.79 acre, a healthy size for outdoor recreation. A stream runs along the back border of the property. And it’s about halfway between downtown Saugerties and Woodstock; a carb run to Bread Alone is under a 10-minute drive from here.

The house runs entirely on electricity. It was built with insulated concrete forms, a Passive House characteristic that, coupled with spray-foam insulation in the roof, maintains even temperatures year-round.
