A Modern Victorian in Nyack, $995K

  |  May 6, 2022

We’re concluding our venture into Victorians this week with an absolute stunner in the Hudson River village of Nyack.

Unlike the other elders we’ve featured, all of which were a century old or more, this five-bedroom beauty is a mere 20 years old. But it packs an aesthetic punch, with five stories, a river view, and a location (a block away from Nyack’s nightlife) that’s hard to beat.

There’s a small parking area outside the front of the house; from there, you can slip down a side walkway to the entry that’s technically on the third floor. On this level are an open-concept living room and dining area, plus a chef’s kitchen. The hardwood floor here is an intricate puzzle of many shapes and sizes.

A dining area that’s illuminated by a big bank of windows sits just outside the kitchen…

…which is smartly outfitted with stainless-steel appliances. White cabinets are complemented by wooden countertops. The same countertop outfits a center island that has stacked-stone accents on its side and room for seating. There’s even room along one wall for a small dinette set.

There are five bedrooms scattered throughout the house, and all of them have an abundance of windows. Some, like the primary bedroom, have a windowed alcove that’s perfect for a reading chair.

…Or a desk.

Other bedrooms are a little more basic, but all have ample closet space—like this one that houses a laundry area.

The house has three full bathrooms. This is the primary bedroom’s ensuite, with a marble-topped double vanity, soaking tub, and a large marble-and-glass walk-in shower.

Available space is scarce in Nyack, so builders have gotten creative—instead of building out, they build up.  True to that ethos, this house has a spectacular covered terrace on its top floor that towers over neighboring houses and offers a peek at the Hudson.

If you want to relax on terra firma, there’s a big, brick patio in the backyard.

This gingerbread-and-stone dream is shoehorned into about a tenth of an acre, but it’s only 30 minutes from New York City, and everything that Nyack has to offer is a one-block walk away.
