A Pleasant Home in the Valley of the Same Name: $398.5K
Jane Anderson | May 22, 2023There are lots of sayings about when’s the best time to plant a garden. Our favorite is, “Plant your vegetable gardens after the full moon in May”—so, since that time has recently passed, Upstater’s inviting you to rip open your seed packets with a week’s worth of garden-centric homes.
Today, we’re in Pleasant Valley, a quiet Dutchess County hamlet near the Taconic State Parkway. The cute ranch was built in 1958, and until recently was occupied by its original owner. It’s been well-maintained over the years, with some pretty updates, to boot.
The facade is a mix of stone and white siding, with a covered, concrete front porch. Rhododendrons bloom just off the porch.
The front door opens to a vinyl-floored foyer, off of which is a bright living room that has a big picture window and hardwood flooring.
A white-painted brick fireplace resides at one end of the living room, flanked by shutter-door storage cubbies.
The kitchen has white ceramic floor tile, maple cabinets, and blue, solid-surface counters.
A big bay window hugs the eat-in dining area. An illustrated-tile backsplash continues the blue theme.
The laundry room is next to the kitchen and has a tower of built-in shelving between the machines and the back door.
The dining room has white walls, a chandelier, and a fruitful ceiling border. French doors lead from here out to a covered patio.
The primary bathroom was remodeled in 2022 and now has a walk-in tub/shower and a double-sink vanity.
The primary bedroom is fully carpeted and has a closet and a bay window.
The second bedroom has a closet and is also carpeted.
The third bedroom has hardwood flooring and two closets. The listing says there’s a hall bath, but it’s not pictured.
The rear covered patio has a half-moon set of brick stairs down to a brick patio. The listing mentions a lower-level walkout basement with a family room that has a fireplace; a wine cellar; recreation room; office, and other spaces, but doesn’t include photos.
The house is on 1.2 acres, including a garden that’s fully fenced in to deter persistent pests. The garden backs up to a large garden shed.
You won’t need to worry about sourcing water for your plants since Wappinger Creek is at the bottom of the sloped backyard.
