A Poughkeepsie Victorian with an Apartment: $535K

The City of Poughkeepsie has stately older homes as well as multifamily houses. Today’s pick, a Poughkeepsie Victorian with an apartment, kinda has both.
The exterior is traditional Victorian: A curved, wraparound porch hugs one front corner of this house, while two stories of bow windows curve around the other.

A double-doored foyer opens to a white-and-wood staircase that’s as luscious to the eye as cake frosting. A stained-glass window catches the eye at the first landing.

A living room is just off the foyer, with a large expanse of hardwood flooring.

A brick fireplace lines one wall, and a rounded set of bow windows bumps out one side.

The dining room has the same treatment, along with bookshelves next to one window and a backyard door next to the other.

A brick fireplace with a frosty-white mantel sits in a corner of the kitchen, across from a long breakfast-bar/island of dark wood. Stainless-steel appliances contrast with the dark cabinetry.

Head up the pretty staircase to find another stained-glass window at the top.

The full bath has white floor tile and white walls, along with a tub/shower combo and a marble-topped vanity.

The primary bedroom’s layout is similar to the living room’s, with a brick fireplace and a bow-window alcove.

The original paneled trim under the windows is a welcome sight. The oversized windows bounce light off the wood flooring.

A second-floor laundry room saves steps.

Black-and-white floor tile is an old-fashioned touch in this full bath.

A door conceals a second staircase…

…that leads to an attic with expansion potential.

At the back of the house, a private entrance opens to stairs…

…leading to an accessory apartment. It’s got a living room…

…a kitchen…

…a full bath…

…and a half-bath on the way to a bedroom.

It’s not huge, but it’s perfect for a single or couple.

An attached garage is a nice surprise, too.
The house is just off Hooker Avenue, on about a quarter-acre located at the corner of South Clinton Street and Forbus Street. It’s a mile to Market Street for a show at The Bardavon.
