A Pre-Apocalyptic Paradise in Chester: $2.6M

  |  July 5, 2024

On Fancy Friday, after the Fourth of July, Upstater is visiting a pre-apocalyptic paradise that has thought of nearly everything—including panic rooms and the ability to go off-grid.

It also happens to be jaw-droppingly stunning. The contemporary estate measures more than 8,000 square feet, with five bedrooms and five baths.

Drive past a security gatehouse at the top of the driveway to get to the home, where waterfalls greet you at the gated entry.

Glacier-cut bluestone covers the foyer, which also has planters for growing veggies and herbs/spices, according to the listing.

An elegant dining room is on the other side of the planter boxes. Stacked-stone walls adjoin a double-size wine refrigerator.

The kitchen has a tongue-and-groove ceiling, which also appeared in the dining room. A large center island is topped with marble that runs down in waterfall edges on two sides.

There’s plenty of room here to entertain a crowd.

Multiple living rooms accommodate large groups, too. This one has a woodstove in front of a stone fireplace, overlooking an outdoor dining area.

This TV room is big but cozy, with a wall of entertainment shelving and another big window looking outside. The floors throughout the house are radiant-heated with a geothermal system.

The bathrooms range in size, but all share the wood or stone esthetic.

There’s a sauna, as well.

Here’s another living area with a fluffy area rug.

Imported Italian marble covers the floor of a lower-level ballroom.

This beautiful bedroom has an angular dormer alcove for the bed, pristine hardwood flooring, and a stone arch leading to the ensuite bath and dressing area.

A skylight illuminates the soaking tub in the primary ensuite bath.

Each of the bedrooms has an ensuite bath.

This one has dual sinks and a vanity/makeup area.

There’s 20,000 square feet of outdoor entertaining space, including cabanas for relaxing…

…and sleeping, too.

A fully equipped outdoor kitchen faces the outdoor dining area, enclosed within a gazebo to protect from the elements. Speaking of protection, the house is outfitted with steel-reinforced walls; document-storage areas are sprinkled throughout the place; each room is air-filtered; and NASA designed the water-filtration system in the home. Each second-floor bedroom has its own egress, and panic rooms serve the third-floor guest rooms.

Relax in the inground saltwater pool for a welcome respite.

Pass by a stone hot tub on the way to the 10,000-square-foot white-sand beach. The 10-acre property includes a helipad, too.

A quick getaway via chopper notwithstanding, the property is located a short hop from Route 17/I-86. Drive about eight miles to fine dining at Glenmere Mansion.
