A Reimagined Mount Tremper Chalet: Cue the Von Trapps, This Place Rocks

Ulster County can’t compare with Austria, but today’s chalet comes close.
This c.1975 home has been fully renovated, with an interior that mixes modern convenience and beautiful vintage detail. The exterior is all chalet, from that arched door on the ground level to a heavily bracketed roof over an alpine-esque second-story porch.

A stacked-stone fireplace has an alcove for wood storage next to a woodstove that’s certainly welcome on chilly nights. The peaked, tongue-and-groove ceiling has exposed rafters.

That ceiling extends to the kitchen area. More wood planks cover the stairwell to the lower level.

Sleek, simple cabinets in a soft sage tone are topped with granite counters.

The first of two bedrooms on the main level is currently an office.

The second bedroom, like the first, has that exceptional ceiling.

So does the bathroom, which has bright white fixtures like a subway-tiled tub/shower and a white vanity.

Follow the stairs down…

…to a full lower level with a tiled hallway.

Another elegant fireplace awaits down here. We love the full-size windows that soak the area in sunlight.

The bedroom down here is a good size, with tan-color walls.

A second full bath has a white tub/shower and a rustic wood vanity to match the wood-tone flooring.

A multi-level deck provides outdoor entertaining space.

Wave at your friends around the firepit from your hot tub. There are also two and a half acres to enjoy.

Access to the Esopus Creek is a two-minute walk from the house. And lunch at Catamount Restaurant at Emerson Resort & Spa is a half-mile away.
