A ‘Treehouse’ in the Woods in Glen Spey: $499.9K

  |  December 18, 2024

Glen Spey is a woodsy enclave in Sullivan County. Today, Upstater’s at a ‘treehouse’ in the woods there that has its own sauna.

The moody, dark exterior sets the tone for this evocative, two-story house. Modern lines follow its c.1976 ethos.

A Tuscan-stone-like fireplace tucks into a corner between floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room.

The living room flows in an open concept to the dining area and kitchen. Warm hardwood covers the floor.

Textured, brown-glass bricks form the backsplash in the dark-toned kitchen.

We love the fun, modern chandelier in the bathroom, which has a shower stall with a glass door.

A four-light chandelier dangles over the bed in this snug bedroom.

The closet door slides back and forth, barn-style. It also serves as a gallery wall/bookcase.

The second bedroom has a more traditional layout.

The lower level is finished with a good-sized family room that has a freestanding sauna stall.

The house has a small deck by the front door, and a wide one out back with steps leading up and down.

Tall evergreens form a spindly natural fence. The 1,044-square-foot house sits on three acres of land; it’s just west of Rio Dam, a hydroelectric dam that gave the road its name. It’s a fantastic spot for eagle-watching at this time of year. And it’s north of the New York/Pennsylvania state line and the popular Hawk’s Nest road.
