A Twin-Terraced Fixer-Upper in Columbia County
Jane Anderson | December 22, 2025
Columbia County is Upstater’s destination today, in the Hudson River town of Stockport.
This home is solid, although it needs cosmetic updates. The stucco, twin terraces, and white railings bring Monaco vibes to the house.
Outdoor space is vital in the warm weather.
The entry is light and bright.
The carpeted living room has aqua-colored walls.
Ok, we acknowledge that a lot could be done to update the home, beginning with the kitchen. Luckily, though, you can live in it while you renovate.
This den/bedroom has wood paneling on the walls and hardwood flooring.
The bathroom has a neat, built-in cabinet above black and white tile flooring.
This bedroom is big, and we’ve got to say we’ve never seen a brick column painted in such a way to honor the brickmakers. The Hudson Valley, and nearby Hudson itself, has a long history of brickyards. In fact, the use of Empire bricks here makes sense, since the Empire Brickyard Wildlife Management Area is a third of a mile from here.
New laminate flooring appears in this bedroom, which, like the room before, has a door to the terrace.
Not a bad spot to spend a warm afternoon.
The basement is unfinished. The house measures 1,560 square feet and sits on a 1.2-acre lot, less than a mile from Route 9. The house is listed for $285,000.
