A Vintage Middletown Country Beauty Near the Heart of Shopping, $475K

  |  October 11, 2022

One of the neat things about living in the Middletown area is that you can live on a country lot, but still be within spitting distance (almost) of great shopping and restaurants.

Case in point: This c.1900 beauty that’s technically within the Town of Wallkill, but has a Middletown mailing address and is within the Middletown school district. It sits on two verdant acres but is minutes to conveniences like the Route 211 shopping corridor, a great nursery at Dogwood Acres Family Farm, and eight miles of hiking and biking at the 1,250-acre Middletown Reservoir Trails.

The house has been well-maintained, starting with this bluestone side porch that’s shady in the summer and protected from the weather. The front door has a transom and sidelights to illuminate the entry.

The foyer greets you with a stately staircase and wide-plank floors.

Like other grand old houses of its age, the entry hall is big and welcoming.

This living room is just off the entry. It has slimmer hardwood floors, a deep-green accent wall, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a brick fireplace with a paneled wood surround.

This is a cool surprise! Just off the living room is this pocket-door archway leading to a parlor/family room. Check out how the sunlight soaks this space.

This room’s got a fireplace that’s nearly identical to the one in the living room.

Across the foyer from the living room is this wide-planked dining room, which has more of those big windows, two large built-in cabinets, and a really cool pendant chandelier over the dining area. A brick fireplace warms this room up, too, along with the fiery red walls.

The kitchen is big and surprisingly modern, with stainless-steel appliances and room for an island in the center. We love the mix of updated cabinets, scrubbed wide-plank floors, and that distressed-paint hutch with undercabinet lighting.

The main level has a half-bath, with white-tiled wainscoting beneath sage walls.

The current owner loves history, as evidenced by the antiques scattered around the home. Head up the stairs to this long hallway, off of which are three bedrooms and a den.

This bedroom has warm-toned wood floors, big windows, and built-in shelves not only on the wall you see here, but on nearly all of the wall opposite.

Another bedroom also has gorgeous floors and big windows.

This room is painted in a deep teal that contrasts well with the honey-colored floors.

A sage-and-white bath is shared by all the bedrooms. It has a walk-in shower with penny tile, while the rest of the bath is floored with square white tiles.

The den is small but perfect for a video game room, reading room, or an office.

Back on the main floor, there’s a mud room with a beautiful barn door leading inside, and a back door leading outside.

This outdoor entertaining area’s large deck can hold lots of seating, a dining table, and a grill. Of course, we’d spend all our time ogling the beauty of that brick.
