A Wappingers Falls Cape Cod: A beautiful mix of vintage and modern.

Wappingers Falls is a cute village in Dutchess County that’s family-friendly and a commuter’s dream.
This Cape Cod-style home was built in 1830 and has show-stopping details reflecting both vintage and modern touches. A wide, deep front porch invites front-row views of summer thunderstorms.

As if the house isn’t cute enough, there’s a pond across the street.

The foyer has dark, wide-plank flooring that carries the history of ancient footsteps.

That flooring continues into the living room, where white walls contrast with a brick fireplace.

The dining room’s light-green walls have white wainscoting. The room is large, with a Colonial-style chandelier.

Beams criss-cross the ceiling above wide-plank flooring in a breakfast room off the kitchen. French doors lead from the dinette area to an outdoor deck.

Also off the breakfast nook, a spacious sunroom ups the coziness factor with a woodburning stove sitting on a brick floor. The walls are lined with windows.

The kitchen has honey-colored wood cabinetry, stainless-steel appliances, and country-kitchen details like a butcher-block center island and a scalloped header above the sink.

A main-floor laundry area is concealed behind a curtain in the breakfast nook.

The main floor has two bedrooms: This one has a beige-and-blue color scheme. and a knotty-pine floor..

…and this one, with the O.G. flooring, is currently used as an office.

A full bath is located next to the knotty-pine bedroom.

Upstairs, a primary ensuite bath is luxurious with an alcoved, Palladian-windowed bench. Thick ceiling beams run adjacent to skylights.

The white tub/shower is enclosed in glass.

The primary bedroom’s skylights are embedded in the angled walls, across from a double closet behind bifold doors.

Another bedroom sits on the other side of the top floor. It has hardwood flooring and green walls.

A large, covered rear porch is just off the sunroom, with steps down to the big backyard.

And the side deck has plenty of room for grilling.

A detached, two-car garage has storage galore. All of this sits on 1.08 acre, and all of it comes at a locally reasonable $469,900. It’s a hop, skip, and jump to the Red Oaks Mill neighborhood of Poughkeepsie to the northwest, or the New Hackensack area of Wappingers to the southwest. And all the Route 9 shopping is about a 10-minute drive; commuters will appreciate that the Taconic State Parkway is about the same distance, in the opposite direction.
