A Wee Little Woodstock Cottage, With Plans For a Bigger One: $499K

  |  April 19, 2022

We continue this week’s amble through some of the Hudson Valley’s walkable places with this oh-so-cute tiny house in Woodstock that’s sure to be snapped up soon.

Just one bedroom and one bath, this 384-square-foot, studio-style house is perfect for a single person or a very compatible couple.

Maple floors mirror a similar veneer on the walls of this compact abode. There’s an abundance of windows, transoms, and French doors that brighten the space and allow pretty views of the wooded property. Imagine sitting on that couch and spending an hour or two sipping tea and watching the wildlife scampering around outside!

There’s a Scandinavian minimalism at work here, with clever floor-to-ceiling storage shelves and even a ledge for display above the couch.

The kitchen is sleek and shiny—its white-and-chrome esthetic is the perfect foil for the lemon-lime-and-strawberry accents that splash throughout the home. Ice-cream sundaes, anyone?

Across the open-concept room from the kitchen/living/dining area is the bedroom space. It also has transom windows and display ledges, and a sliding barn door to the bathroom.

Penny tiles and a streamlined vanity highlight the bathroom with a surprisingly roomy shower, which is clad in the same corrugated, galvanized steel that sheathes the ceiling of the main room. Sometimes, though, a good soak sounds good, and a shower just can’t do that.

But that’s what this is for: A new Mountain Pools hot tub sits just off the deck for relaxing on a moonlit night.

There’s room for lounging and grilling on the deck, where you’ll find more of that galvanized steel. There’s a low-maintenance metal roof, as well.

The two-acre lot includes a one-acre conservation easement, leaving a full acre on which to build a bigger home if desired (zoning and a septic system are already in place for a three-bedroom home and keeping this adorable cottage as a guest house). The site is a 10-minute walk to Mill Hill Road and the markets, pharmacies, and restaurants that abide there.
