A Woodstock Cottage with Walkability: $615K
Jane Anderson | October 21, 2024It’s the spooky season: In about a week, little ghouls and goblins will haunt our streets, seeking treats. Upstater is celebrating walkable areas this week, to help readers navigate Hudson Valley streets safely.
Today’s pick is a block off Tinker Street in Woodstock, which is itself an eminently walkable village. Deep-blue siding and porch posts contrast well with a bright red screen door.
After you let that door bang shut behind you, you’ll be in the living room. A rich hardwood floor is underfoot, and a native riverstone fireplace takes center stage. Black-and-oak stairs curl their way around the two-story fireplace to the second floor.
White-trimmed windows stack up on the peaked side wall.
Gray cabinets are topped with gray counters in the kitchen—but those are some of the only neutrals to be found. Purple color soaks the upper cabinets, while turquoise is the hue of choice in the dining room. Seafoam trims the window above the deep, aproned farmhouse sink. A white subway-tile backsplash cools the vibe a bit. No-VOC paint honors the current owners’ sensitivity to chemicals; mini splits do several duties of heating, cooling, dehumidifying, and purifying the air in the house.
A Wolf chef’s range and Liebherr refrigerator both shine in stainless steel.
Back in the living room, the stairs climb to a hall of bookcases.
This room has a sunken floor; both levels are made of hardwood.
Whitewashed beams line the peaked ceiling in this room behind the fireplace chimney on the second floor.
The bathroom, too, has a beamed ceiling, along with a yellow-painted mirror over a deep vanity.
The tub/shower is deep and is lined with glazed gray tile.
A lil red shed has a ramp to easily retrieve tools and toys.
A red-and-yellow garden shed adds an adorable pop of color, even on the wintriest days. Four, handmade, locust-wood standing raised beds promise bountiful garden seasons.
There’s more than a half-acre here on which to play, replete with stone walkways and an abundance of gorgeous perennials.
The house is just over 1,000 square feet in size. It’s about a half-mile from the center of the village (and a comforting bowl at Yum Yum Noodle Bar).
