This Accord midcentury ranch embraces the late 1960s in the best possible way, with subtle updates that are consistent with its character. 

Since this is Patios and Decks Week, this property’s cedar back deck first drew our attention. It overlooks the sprawling backyard, part of a 6.7-acre swathe of land situated in the Ulster County town of Accord. From here, the southern edge of the Ashokan Reservoir is just a few miles to the north, with glorious Slide Mountain to the west. In short, this is one pretty area.

Once we took a look at the 1,371-square-foot interior, we were sold. Imagine our delight to discover that, despite its hip-grey exterior, its original interior midcentury features had not been stripped and replaced with grey. The stone fireplace in the living room has been mostly left alone, just spruced up to make it look new. Same with the wood-paneled wall.

The kitchen has been remodeled, but, for the most part, it exists in the background…

…while still equipped with the essentials to satisfy the home chef in the family.

In addition to three bedrooms (note the authentic-looking 1960s ceiling light fixtures), there are two baths, each updated with new fixtures.

The interior also includes this sweet sunroom with its original wood siding and built-in shelves…

…and, the backyard includes a fixed-up shed that’s been equipped as a recording studio/rehearsal space. Be still my beating heart…
