An Adorable Woodstock Cottage with a Studio: $675K

  |  May 17, 2023

The arts in Woodstock began in the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony. Today’s house pick is a former artist’s studio, built nearly a century ago on the fringes of the colony.

The Cape Cod cottage sits in a beautiful setting, with pretty landscaping and a bluestone walkway to the front porch.

The porch, too, is pretty, with sturdy columns and railings and a French door.

The front door is within its own alcove around the corner from the main porch.

The two-story entry is bright, with the staircase on one side and a bright window nook on the other.

The floor is highly polished, and the walls and ceiling look nicely painted. A chandelier hangs over the living area.

A white-painted brick fireplace is still in working condition.

The kitchen is a funky mix of colors, from the brown tile floor to the terracotta walls and green pops of color on the doorway and cabinet.

There’s also a blue hutch and a red pantry. This is Woodstock, and it works here.

An eat-in area is tucked next to a big window at one end of the kitchen.

The first-floor bedroom has lots of windows and that original wood flooring.

The staircase is carpeted, with white risers and spindles and dark treads and handrails.

At the top of the stairs is a roomy nook that’s perfect for a home office or guest bed. It’s got a painted brick column and built-in storage cabinets.

The second bedroom is tucked under the eaves upstairs.

The bathroom has soft blue-gray tones, with a checkered floor and a big tub.

At the back of the house is a separate studio with two entrances. It’s heated and has electricity.

There aren’t great photos of the studio. Here’s one, amid clutter. But you can see a ceiling beam and windows. This could easily become an accessory bedroom suite, or guest suite.

The house is on an acre of property, and has a small, fenced-in area.

The one-car, detached garage has a garage door and a regular door—it’s perfect for a workshop. You can walk or ride your bicycle to downtown Woodstock from here, too.
