An Elizaville Schoolhouse with One Bed, One Bath, for $295K

Today, Upstater visits the c. 1860 Elizaville Public Schoolhouse, now for sale as a one-bed, one-bath home.

It’s about 15 minutes to the city of Hudson, and sits on a quarter-acre lot. The exterior retains its schoolhouse charm, with white siding and a cupola. The door now sports a fun pink tone.

Inside, the 706-square-foot house is understated and beautiful. A polished wood floor is underfoot, and off-white walls soften the light coming in through the original windows (the listing says that students’ names are etched into the handblown glass).

The living room is big, with a high ceiling. That pink door leads to the bathroom.

The kitchen is in an alcove next to the bathroom.

Black lower cabinets are topped with butcher-block counters, and white cabinets are overhead above a white subway-tile backsplash. The gas stove is white.

The bathroom is an explosion of pink, from the walls to the footed, cast-iron tub. Slate-colored hex tile is on the floor, and a white, vintage wall-mounted sink complements the blush tones. The listing says there’s a stacked washer/dryer in here, too.

A small dining area is arranged in front of the sofa in the living room. Against one wall is the staircase leading to the second floor.

The bedroom is in a loft area up here that overlooks the living room.

It’s got one small doored closet, and another with a curtain closure. The floor is dark gray.

Opposing windows under the eaves provide lots of light in the space.

The property is about halfway between the Taconic and the Hudson River. And the owner will have access to the nearby Twin Lakes swimming hole.
