Asian-Inspired Split-Level with a Library: $849K
Jane Anderson | August 19, 2024It’s that time of year when books come to the forefront: Beach reads, mid-year reading logs, realizing the kiddos haven’t completed their summer reading yet and DON’T THEY KNOW SCHOOL STARTS in a couple of weeks?
Anyway, Upstater is dedicating this week to homes with libraries (or room for them), so kick back and peruse these bibliophile-worthy abodes. Today’s pick is in the Ellenville area, at an Asian-inspired split-level with a library and other amenities on 15+ acres.
The entry is a half-flight below the main level—a glimpse is available in this image.
The dining room has Shoji screens and—currently—white lacquer furniture. The peaked ceiling has wood planking, and we love that globe chandelier.
That cool ceiling continues through the living area, too. Sliders create a window wall alongside the Shoji screen.
Midcentury Modern style abounds here, with a brick fireplace centering a conversation area upholstered in fabric that would fit well in a “Bewitched” TV episode.
The sliding glass doors open onto the wraparound deck.
Ultra-purists would want to hang onto the fluorescent lighting and shiny countertops in the kitchen, which has another set of sliders next to a dinette. Above the sink, a wide window wall offers up even more woodsy views.
The lower level library has the same sliders…
…and a more-spartan but still cool brick fireplace. The red accent walls pop against the black piano and brick.
It looks like a sliding Shoji screen can offer up privacy in the primary bedroom, which has red wall-to-wall carpeting and a gorgeous wood ceiling.
The ensuite bath is slim but long, with a walk-in shower sheathed in the same gray tile as the bathroom walls and floor.
Two bedrooms are on the lower floor: This one has Shoji accents…
…and both have those planked ceilings.
The shared bath is a throwback, with the tub, toilet, and sink in matching blue.
The house measures 1,200 square feet; the wraparound deck provides tons of outdoor “living space” when it’s warm out. The 15.79-acre property is sprinkled with Asian-inspired statuary, most of which stays, according to the listing.
Three ponds include a koi pond fed by a natural spring.
The home is surrounded by natural beauty, yet is just five miles from downtown Ellenville for a fresh pumpernickel-raisin loaf from Cohen’s Bakery.
