Beacon’s Fancier Side for $1.195 mill
Kandy Harris | June 20, 2014Yes, a fancier side to Beacon’s real estate market does exist. It’s just not terribly robust at the moment. But we did come across this lovely gingerbread Gothic Victorian with the original wing designed by none other than Calvert Vaux, Central Park’s design mastermind. And what’s not to love about this house? It’s huge, over 6500 square feet on 3 acres of land. There are also a whopping 7 baths to go with its 5 bedrooms, in-ground pool is included, grand entryway with marble floors, big sitting room spaces with fireplaces, a bar off the dining room, and on and on. According to the informative brochure, Shadowlawn Estate (as it’s called), an extension was added in 1910, but before that happened, the house was featured in Vaux’s 1857 book Villas and Cottages. Read and see more of the estate here.
