Behold: A Lake-Access Log Cabin for Under $200,000
Kandy Harris | June 11, 2014It’s like finding a unicorn in Putnam County. Except it’s not, because Lake Peekskill has a lot of affordable houses on the market. And a lot of foreclosures, too. We’re guessing that when financial times get rough, the first thing to go is the weekend lake house. This log cabin isn’t a foreclosure, but it is a short sale, and if you know anything about short sales, there’s nothing short, time-wise, about buying one. Sometimes it can take a long time to get an offer approved, but if you’re really jazzed about a place and you’re willing to be patient, it can work out for you. Listing price is $155,900, which is not too bad for a 1,700 square foot cabin. What is hair-raising, however, are the taxes. $10,500 a year for a $155,000 property on an acre of land? Madness. But hey, the views are nice, and it comes with access to Lake Peekskill.
