We Could Spend A Lot of Time in this Renovated Chatham Farmhouse for $489K
Kandy Harris | March 16, 2020If forced to stay inside, we’d want to do it in this big brick farmhouse on over five acres in rural Columbia County, NY.
With social-distancing in full effect, we here at Upstater can’t help but find ourselves fantasizing about the kind of house in which we’d actually want to be quarantined. Not that there’s anything wrong with our current home office, but if we knew we had to stay in the house for a good long time, we’d want our surroundings to be spacious and full of natural light, equipped with top-of-the-line fixtures and appliances, and some smarty-pants bells-and-whistles, like bathroom floors that warm up as soon as you put your feet on them, or thermostats that read your mind and prep your taxes. We’d probably want a fair amount of land around the house, too, in case of, say, a highly-contagious pandemic, for example.
While this 2,386-square-foot, four-bedroom farmhouse might not have sentient bathroom floors or telepathic thermostats, it still wouldn’t be a bad place to be stuck for several weeks.
Just look at all that light, thanks to a bevvy of big windows, not to mention the newly-refinished hardwood floor original to the house, which was built in 1910. The gigantic, open living room will help stave off the cabin fever…
…plus, an updated kitchen roomy enough to store all of your canned goods and bulk items. And, with new granite counter stops, stainless steel appliances, and an over-sized farm sink, you’ll hardly miss going out to restaurants…
There are enough bedrooms to keep everyone occupied in their own private space to minimize the inevitable squabbling that comes with hunkering down in-place…
…and a cedar-lined closet will keep your clothes like-new until you’re allowed to venture out for work…
…and, a remodeled bathroom with a tub, separate glass-enclosed shower, and new fixtures will be there for you when you just have to escape everyone else in the house.
Spend your time in isolation fixing up the walk-up attic, which is large enough to accommodate a couple more bedrooms, an office, an extra bath, or even a small guest apartment for when we’re allowed to have guests over again…
…or, work on transforming the property’s old barn, instead.
When you can no longer bear the thought of spending another second indoors, head out to the five-acre lot and take a wander through the trees, scouting out places to build an underground bunker should things get really bonkers.
