Breaking news: we declare Upstater’s Kingston Stockade Weekend Getaway winner in just two days, August 15th! If you haven’t already, or if you’ve entered so often it’s muscle memory, there’s still time to join the sweepstakes. And what sweeping stakes they are: a three night stay at the luxurious St. James rental house, tickets for you and the crew at BSP: Kingston, a $100 tab at the Stockade Tavern’s cocktail heaven, another $100 at Ester’s Wine & Spirits, and finally, $200 to feast at Kingston staple Boitson’s Restaurant. We stopped by Boitson’s to discuss the sweepstakes’ overwhelming opportunity.

Boitson’s is nestled in a long narrow building on Kingston’s Front street; velvet, exposed brick, leather seating, a sign reading “Lubrication” above the bar, all come together and craft the cool relaxed atmosphere of the place. As owner Maria Phillipis describes it, “This is the kind of place you can bring a group of friends, go on a date, or bring the kids.” In other words, Boiton’s is where anyone can expect a kind warm welcome and delicious hot food.

An eclectic menu fits the open arms of the restaurant and the food is made with locally sourced and organic product wherever possible, coming from places such as Catskill’s RSK Farms, Hudson Valley Cattle and Hudson Valley Fresh. Appetizers range from deviled eggs and mixed green salad to fried oysters and devils on horseback. For a main course you can grab some classic fried chicken and mashed potatoes, or maybe “Mustard & Molasses Glazed Wild Salmon,” or the eponymous “Boitson Burger,” made with caramelized onion, lettuce and tomato all on a challah bun. That’s all just the tip of the iceberg. As the friend known to say “come to me last” once the server comes around, I could grow whiskers deciding exactly what I want at Boitson’s. Maria had all intentions of serving a wide-ranging menu, “I wanted to model this after the kind of restaurant I would eat at, where I could get a burger, or a fancy steak or some simple fried oysters.” Maria met great success: Boitson’s is the kind of place anybody would like to eat at.

On top of it all Boitson’s is affordable, with $200 you could become everybody’s best friend, or just feed yourself everything on the menu, because sometimes greed is good. If you fend off the food coma, walk over to The Stockade for drinks, don’t miss the show at BSP, and pick up some wine at Ester’s Wine & Spirits for your three nights at St. James. What else need be said? Enter to win. Two days left. Do it! Do it.
