Camping Newbies: NYS Parks is Now Offering Free Tents & Gear Summer 2017
Kandy Harris | May 16, 2017Want to try out overnight camping this summer? The best way to do it is to borrow gear. You don’t want to drop all that money on camping stuff if you go and find it’s not your cup of tea. Luckily, New York State has first-time campers covered with a program to provide free camping gear to those who register to camp at select campgrounds all over the state, according to a recent article in the NY Daily News.
From July 7 through August 25, 2017, participating campers will receive a family tent, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, camp chairs, lantern, and firewood. Campers will also be assisted by a Camping Ambassador who will help them set up their camp. Participating camps in the Hudson Valley/Catskills include North South Lake in Greene County (7/7-7/9), Kenneth Wilson Campground in Ulster County (8/4-8/6), and Schodack Island in Rensselaer County (7/28-7/30).
Reservations can be made starting May 17, 2017 at 518-474-6718. Happy Camping, happy campers!
