Car-Free Country House: Beacon Colonial, $329,900
Kandy Harris | November 6, 2013In keeping with our in-depth studies of Beacon and Newburgh (more on crime rates in those towns later today), we had a look-see around Beacon to see what’s new on the market. As we said earlier in the week, the real estate market in Beacon is decidedly unimpressive most of the time, and good properties get snatched up in a heartbeat. Here’s a recently renovated Colonial located three block north of Main Street, and we’re quite impressed by the quality of the work done here. Just for comparison’s sake, here’s a shot of what it used to look like mid-renovation in August 2012, which we happened to find on Google Maps Street View:
Big difference, eh? The interior is nice, too, but it’s the wide plank floors that really take the cake for us. Kitchen’s fine, but it’s a little too “Lowe’s show floor” for us. Perhaps it just needs to be lived in a bit to build character. It’s located on a corner lot that’s small, but there’s definitely a yard there. Convenience-wise, it’s a few blocks from Main Street and a little over a mile to the Metro North station, where you can call a cab to get you home. It’s doable, perhaps. The listing extols its many energy-efficient virtues, so make sure you take a look at that.
