Car-Free Country House: Cold Spring Colonial Cottage, $330,000
Kandy Harris | March 20, 2013In terms of proximity to the Metro North station, ease of travel by something other than a car, and a waterfront location with a whole lotta culture and nature going on, it doesn’t get a lot better than Cold Spring in Putnam County (although Beacon in Dutchess County comes close). The “Country House” part of “Car-Free Country House) seems a little disingenuous, mainly because we don’t consider Cold Spring all that country-fied, but the hamlet of Garrison is nearby, and that’s the country. Close enough for our purposes.
It’s tough to find something affordable in Cold Spring, because the market is robust. So $330,000 for a cottage right near the water, just steps from the train station, and at a decent size of 1,400 square feet is a bit of a bargain in our book. And look! It’s even cute inside! The lot size is also “cute” in that “miniature” kind of way, but it’s fenced in with trees, and the neighborhood looks nice. Keep in mind that Cold Spring taxes are…well, they’re Cold Spring taxes.
