Car-Free Country House: Kerhonkson Craftsman, $212,000
Kandy Harris | July 31, 2013Oh, Short Line Bus route, how could we have forgotten about you? There’s one right in the Ulster County hamlet of Kerhonkson, and this Arts & Crafts is right next door to the stop. It’s literally the bus stop’s next door neighbor. Such a cute house, too, and big shrub rows and tall trees keep it pretty well shielded from Route 209 (have a look-see on the GMAP Street View). There are three Short Line buses that run daily from Kerhonkson to NYC, but a word of caution about living without a car in the hamlet: It’s the country, for sure. There’s a market walking distance from this property, but there’s not much else to do that’s accessible by foot. Avid bicyclists might make a better go of it, and there’s a farm market about 3 miles away (20 minutes by bike) in Accord. The Short Line will take you to other locations upstate, though, if you need to stretch your legs a bit.
