Car-Free Country House: Otisville Farmhouse, $195,000
Kandy Harris | February 20, 2013We admit that we’re just getting to know the Orange County village of Otisville, located in the town of Mt. Hope. We do know that it’s near both a federal prison (where Ken Starr is currently calling home) and state penitentiary and that there are lots of foreclosures there. That last part makes us sad. However, we’ve also learned that there are some inexpensive houses there, and some of them offer a good-sized bang for your buck. And, there’s Metro North station on the Port Jervis line, and this farmhouse is situated just a little over a mile from it (don’t worry; if you plan ahead, you can cab it).
Lot size is nearly 2 acres close to the village, where you can get groceries, grab a pizza, go out for a beer, and mail a letter (do people still do that?). We like its snowy-coziness in the photos and the rustic-looking wood floors in the kids’ rooms. For less than $200,000, this could be a good deal.
