Car-Free Country House: Tri-Level in Salisbury Mills, $199,000

  |  April 18, 2012

Here’s a new place for us at Upstater: Salisbury Mills. A hamlet located in the towns of Cornwall (Orange County) and Blooming Grove, Salisbury Mills is next door neighbors to the lovely Beaverdam Lake. And this cutie house is about a half-mile away from it. About a mile up the road a piece is the Salisbury Mills-Cornwall train station on the NJ Transit line. Walking distance to restaurants, stores, and even an art gallery, and right across the street is the Moodna Creek Viaduct.

The house was built in 1900 and renovated later, so the kitchen is new (but looks really small), as are the appliances. The lot size is negligible, about 3500 square feet, but there’s a lake to the north and a creek across the street.

For us, it’s one of those houses that we see and like, and then come back to it later and we’re not so sure. Especially when it comes to the exterior color. Mustard yellow? Hmmm. Questionable. But it’s got a sweetness about it, and we like Salisbury Mills and the lake nearby.

The listing says it’s private, but it’s kind of hard for us to see how. It’s right on Hill Road, and the neighbors are squished right up against it. Nevertheless, looks like a good option for parking the car and getting around by foot or bike. Affordable, too.
