Thanksgiving Literature

Poetry Barn is hosting an evening of Thanksgiving Literature with Writers in the Mountains, Friday, November 18 at 6:30 pm at the Woodstock Public Library. Readers include poets Anique Taylor, Sharon Israel and Lissa Kiernan, fiction writer Nina Shengold, and journalist Lillian Browne, among others.

Scheduled readings will be followed by an open mic. Writers in the Mountains is a literary organization founded almost a quarter century ago in Roxbury, and serving the entire Catskill region.

Midsummer Madness

The Open Eye Theater in Margaretville is hosting Midsummer Madness, a rehearsed reading of Tania Myren’s latest play, Sunday, November 20 at 2 pm. “A play about playing Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’,” Midsummer Madness is a comedy for grown-ups. The cast includes Jerrold Reinstein, Irene Kellogg, and Erwin Karl.

Classical Music

The Orchestra Now, a newly founded training orchestra and master’s degree program at Bard College, performs this weekend at Fisher Center in Annandale-on-Hudson, introducing the public to less known compositions by two contemporary classical music composers, both from China: Guohui Ye and Xiaogang Ye. The Orchestra Now will also perform Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, an orchestral suite completed by the late Romantic composer in 1940.

Performances are held Saturday, November 19 at 8 pm, and Sunday, November 20 at 2 pm.
