With Catskills Conf, Hudson Valley Tech Gains Steam
Linda H. Codega | October 17, 2016
Now in its second year, the Catskills Conf comes back to the Hudson Valley October 21-23 at the Ashokan Center. The conference builds upon the success it experienced in its inaugural year and will bring together technologists from both the Hudson Valley and from New York City for a weekend of learning, inspiration, and, above all, immersion.
Speakers include Dennis Crowley, the co-founder of Foursquare, and Matthew Stinchcomb, the founder of the Good Work Institute, who will speak to what it means to “do good work.”
The founders of several other upstart companies will also speak. This includes the founder of Field Company, Chris Muscarella, who raised over $1.6 million on a kickstarter to design a cast iron skillet, and the founder of SoundingBox, Pamela Pavliscak, who will speak to how she designed the SoundingBox platform to “decode emotion and behavior for websites.” Another highlight will be the co-founder of Agrilyst, Allison Kopf, who designed a data-gathering platform for indoor agriculture.
Apart from the speakers, the conference will offer lively music and late-night entertainment and activities that are made for fall in the Hudson Valley, including hard cider fermentation, a plant foraging how-to, and blacksmithing. Of course, given that the venue is at the base of the Catskill Mountain, there will be plenty of opportunities to be inspired by the surrounding woods.
