  |  July 19, 2018

Art and technology combine at Westchester Community College’s Center for Digital Studies in Peekskill, preparing the next workforce wave…

And, there’s plenty of ways for students to learn in the 20,000-square-foot facility with 11 classrooms, equipped with multimedia technology, as well as five post-production studios. Inspiration abounds for about 2,000 students per year, thanks to its location in downtown Peekskill city, close to other cultural centers and art galleries.

Credit and Non-Credit Courses

The Center for Digital Studies delivers a host of credit courses in film, video editing, digital storytelling, CAD, 3-D printing, graphic design, painting, drawing, and more.

“One of the center’s goals is to foster access to arts technology and arts education to the community,” explained the Center’s director Sherry Mayo. “In the fall, she continued, “we’re answering another community need to offer training in hospitality so that incumbent workers may advance in their field with workforce ready skills.” Starting in October, the Center will be launching a program focused on culinary arts and workers in the food industry  called The Hospitality Workforce Credential, which starts October 1, 2018. Courses are scheduled for Mondays from 9am to 11am, through November 19, 2018, and field work requirements will put those skills to work in real-time. For more information on the Center’s hospitality credential, contact 914-606-7300 or email peekskill@sunywcc.edu.

Professionals in need of upgrading their skills and tech knowledge can apply for the short-term Quick Start classes, as well as 48 and 72-hour certificates in new digital design technology like UX/UI. Non-credit courses also include web programming, mobile applications development, SEO/analytics, and Coding for Kids. Summer Programs

The Center’s youth programs kicked off for the year in early July this year, with a heavy emphasis on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), preparing the next workforce in arts technology integration as prep for advanced study and work in a digital age.
