Colonial in Hopewell Junction, $425,000
Kandy Harris | March 21, 2012This big circa-1825 Colonial is one of the few houses we found in the Hopewell Junction zip code that came in at less than $100/square foot. Plus, it’s on 14.6 acres, which makes the deal even sweeter. It’s +/- 4,704 square feet large, but it looks like it needs some help getting back to its former grandeur. Some rooms could stand to updated, like the drab and dark kitchen (although it looks like it might have cool antique cooking stove in there), the sun room/greenhouse that appears to be attached, and some of the walls, which look a little banged up. But a fresh coat of paint and some cosmetic fix-ups could be all that’s needed here.
It’s interesting to note that most Hopewell Junction houses we found in this price range or higher are those big, generic-looking, newly-constructed “starter castles” in treeless gated communities and subdivisions. There are A LOT of them for sale in Hopewell Junction, and many have had their prices drastically reduced thanks to the housing market for such properties tanking. So unique, historical or otherwise eye-catching properties are not so easy to come by. While this old Colonial might have all the bells and whistles, it’s got good features and lots of land.
