Looking for a home that’s not a typical home? How about a converted firehouse in Saugerties village, right next door to the Esopus Creek?

While there’s (sadly) no more pole to slide down, the C.A. Lynch House Co. No. 2 building in Saugerties, NY can more easily accommodate daily home life, thanks to a full conversion into a two-bedroom residence, just steps away from the increasingly-popular Ulster County village. From here, a stroll across the bridge and a slightly more strenuous saunter up the Partition Street hill will put you front-and-center to local boutiques, antique stores, and restaurants. An even shorter ramble will take you down to Saugerties Beach on the Esopus Creek, right across the street.

The 1,680-square-foot space includes a fairly no-frills interior that could use a liberal dose of your personal style, so free free to go nuts in here. First and foremost, we’d figure out a way to expose the garage doors, which are currently reduced to window-sized openings with the rest hidden away behind drywall.

There’s a large, updated kitchen, and the bathroom has been updated, too…

…but there are scant photos of the bedrooms and the rest of the interior, so color us curious…

…particularly about the cupola room at the top of the building that must offer some pretty creek views.

Continue south of Route 9W out of Saugerties, and you’ll be in Kingston in around 20 minutes by car. Two things to keep in mind: The house right up against the house next door, and, it faces Saugerties Fire Department Station 2, right across the street. When the sirens go off, you’ll be the first to hear about it.
