Affordable Cottage in Downtown Kingston, NY, $159K
Kandy Harris | April 14, 2020Hunting for that elusive home at an affordable price in the Hudson Valley? Set your sights on this cute Kingston cottage close to the Rondout Creek.
With realtors offering virtual showings and video tours, there’s no reason you can’t keep searching the listings even as we’re practicing social distancing. However, you might also be doing a little belt-tightening, like many of us, so your home-buying budget will have to stretch further than ever before. Good thing you’re here, then, because Upstater is on the case. This week, we’ll be featuring budget-friendly homes for sale in the Hudson Valley and Catskills, and what better place to start than illustrious, industrious Kingston, NY? The Ulster County city is as hot as ever, due in part to neighborhoods like Kingston’s waterfront, situated downtown along the Rondout Creek.
This two-bedroom, 1,025-square-foot home is right in the midst of it, a few blocks north of the shoreline. For a singleton, couple, or family of three, the compact interior is just the right size, with charming touches like bamboo floors throughout, white-washed wood-sided ceilings, recessed lighting, and plenty of natural light in the living room…
…which is semi-open to the updated, eat-in kitchen that includes granite counter tops.
A half-bath rounds out the first floor, while both bedrooms and a full bath are on the second floor, also with wood floors, plus a stacked washer/dryer discreetly tucked-away in a hallway closet.
Check out the master bedroom, complete with loft, a built-in shelf, and a big closet…
…and, the second bedroom could be an office or studio, if you don’t need another bedroom.
The backyard is small but situated in a sunny spot with a brick back patio and storage sheds. Here’s our issue with this property, which we noticed when we were looking at the Google Map Streetview. There’s a public school bus depot right next door – at least, there was when the Googlemobile went by – which might be noisy in the mornings before school. Still, it’s a sweet little home with a tidy interior, and the price is hard to beat.
