Diamond in the Rough in Wurtsboro: $75K

People talk about tiny houses all the time, but rarely does anyone commit to one.
Here’s your chance: a 478-square-foot, one-bed, one-bath tiny house in Wurtsboro, Sullivan County.

Built in 1940, this diamond in the rough in Wurtsboro is an O.G. tiny house. The living room, though, fits a sofa quite nicely.

We’re not sure if we love or hate the tongue-and-groove wall and ceiling treatments. The floor, though, definitely needs an upgrade. And we’d introduce mini-splits in place of those in-the-wall air conditioners.

The ceiling rafters and wall pillars definitely add interest. The kitchen, or what there is of it, is interesting, as well.

And there are sliders…

…to another, interior portion of the house.

A flight of steps leads to a large, open area warmed by a space-age-looking fireplace.

It sits on its own, elevated stone platform, next to what resembles a wooden stage. The pillars in this room are detailed with even more intricate trim.

It’s copied on the rafters, too. This room has a slim bar with a TV up top next to the “stage”; a dining area; and plenty of hardwood flooring.

A mirrored closet door clues us in that this other space is, indeed, a bedroom.

It’s got a parquet floor that’s just a shade darker than the wood-paneled walls.

Hey, someone certainly did painstaking work in this bathroom. Glass blocks climb atop one another on either side of the tub/shower, and wall tiling shares tones of white and brown. There’s plenty of storage, too, it seems, between the mirrored medicine cabinets and glass-doored cupboards on the opposite wall.

The furniture on this nicely peaked, covered porch reminds us of something Jeff Foxworthy once said. Anyway, the porch is roomy and dappled in sunlight.

This view overlooks part of the property’s quarter-acre. The price was recently slashed in half, so we doubt this will stick around for long.
