Dive Into This Catskills Country Cottage with a Pool, $349.9K

  |  May 24, 2022

We’re cruising north on our tour of houses with pools. Today’s gem is a cute charmer in Catskill, complete with a white fence out front.

The house was built in 1920, and it’s fairly easy to see its cottage-y origins before the garage and family room/dining room/potential bedroom were added.

The front windows—triple picture windows above, with ventilating casements underneath—let light pour into the living room just off the main foyer. A laminate floor glows along with the brass trim on the woodburning fireplace.

The second front door, between the main entry and the garage, leads into this sunken family room/dining room that could also serve as a third bedroom. The opposite end of the room features these sliders onto a back deck and into the backyard.

The kitchen is very large, with white cabinets and black countertops lining two walls. It also has a door leading to the backyard.

Behind a breakfast-nook peninsula is room for a dinette. The easy-care, hardwood-look laminate flooring continues here as well.

And more of those versatile picture-windows-over-casements appear in the kitchen, too. Imagine the refreshing breezes with the door and windows open. As you can see, there are a lot of cabinets, but the work triangle needs work…

…because the oven is blocked when the kitchen door is open. Since it’s an electric oven, a future homeowner might consider eliminating it and replacing the cooktop with an electric range that has an oven below it.

All the living areas are on the main level, although the upstairs dormer suggests the potential for finishing the attic. There’s an unfinished basement, too. But for now, there are two bedrooms with closets on the main level.

How do you feel about mirrored closet doors? We understand their usefulness, but depending on where the bed’s located, we don’t want to be confronted head-on with our wakeup face first thing in the morning.

Welcome to the early 1980s. This full bath, with a tub/shower in the same creamy taupe as this vintage sink, has disco/Vegas vibes—but it looks like everything’s in good shape.

You can see the sliders from the family/dining/bedroom on the left here, and the back kitchen door on the right.

The sliders lead to this blue deck (a fresh coat of paint would be a nice and easy update), and a path of paving bricks goes from there to a fully fenced, inground pool. The house sits on more than a third of an acre, and there’s a level backyard next to the pool area that’s just begging for creative landscaping.

The house’s $349,900 price point sounds like a steal—but there’s an empty, buried underground fuel tank on the property that needs to be decommissioned. A replacement above-ground oil tank is already in use and provides for the baseboard hot-water heating.
